Tips how to avoid becoming a victim of fraud

  • Be cautious if an unknown person asks you to send money using Western Union. Think over if the money should really be transferred immediately?
  • Send money only to well-known persons or to those whose identity you can check.
  • Be cautious if a stranger asks you to transfer money and send him/her detailed information about the transfer (the control number, your passport data etc.).
  • Do not send the money to a stranger using a fictitious recipient’s name.
  • Not in all countries Western Union requires a receiver to present the money transfer control number to pick up the transfer.
  • A test question is provided only for emergencies or for situations when it is a must for the transfer reception in particular countries.
  • Western Union does not guarantee the receiption of or the quality of any goods or services purchased.
  • It is better to choose another payment type for purchasing over the Internet, for instance, the transfer to a vender’s account in a bank. In this case, if anything goes wrong, there is a possibility to find the owner.
